'The Mick' season 1 spoilers, news: FOX's new comedy series features Kaitlin Olson as cool but irresponsible aunt
After getting saddled back with the responsibility of taking care of her sister's kids owing to a very urgent need for money to pay a dangerously persistent loan shark, it looks like the "The Mick's" protagonist will have her hands full for the rest of the show's first season.
The upcoming third episode titled "The Balloon" will have her planning a surprise birthday party for Ben (Jack Stanton). And in doing so, she and the rest of the household will be forced to set aside their differences, if only for a day, to make it up to the youngest member Pemberton kid. However, planning the celebrations and actually executing it will pose unwarranted problems that could potentially turn the entire household upside down. Will Mickey be able to handle this newest challenge to her glaringly lacking parenting skills?
In the first episode of FOX's new sitcom, which premiered on a special Sunday timeslot, Mickey's sister Poodle (Tricia O'Kelley) and her millionaire husband Christopher (Laird Macinstosh) were arrested by the FBI for fraud and tax evasion, leaving Mickey with their three kids for what was supposed to be just an overnight deal for the financial loan she was asking her sister for.
However, after the couple skipped the country and the three kids proved to be too much to handle, Mickey called in the Pembertons' grandparents to look after them in the second episode, which aired two days later on the show's regular Tuesday timeslot.
When Geno, the loan shark appeared demanding of his money, Mickey was forced to save the kids from the hands of their very strict grandmother Evelyn (Concetta Tomei), who accidentally slipped on Ben's drool and was thus forcibly carted out of the scene on a hospital gurney with quite possibly a broken hip.
Speaking with The Cut about her character, actress Olson described Mickey as someone who was the opposite of her "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" character, Dee. Unlike Dee, Mickey did not at all care about what others think of her and could be pretty confident with the choices she's making.
"They just happen to be ridiculous choices," Mickey added.
How will this present attitude play into her newfound home and responsibility as the guardian to her niece and nephews? How will living with the Pembertons change her, if at all, in the long run?
"The Mick" season 1 episode 3 airs on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 8:31 p.m. EST on FOX. It takes over the old timeslot of another sitcom "New Girl" which will be airing on an earlier timeslot of 8 p.m. EST.
