'The Vampire Diaries' season 8 spoilers: Is Sybil really dead?
With "The Vampire Diaries" hitting its final midseason hiatus, the supernatural series was able to set up an interesting and yet still vague second half of season 8.
Stefan (Paul Wesley) makes a deadly deal that could spell his doom in the last few episodes of The CW show. The other Salvatore brother proposed to Cade (Wolé Parks) to turn off his humanity in exchange for shortening the duration of his being a manservant. As it turns out, the Devil, also known as the creator of hell, agreed to the plan, which prompted Stefan to join Damon (Ian Somerhalder) on a road trip outside of Mystic Falls.
While the haggling is all going down, Damon continued with his binge killing, adding another notch on his body count in the episode titled "The Next Time I Hurt Somebody, It Could Be You." This is despite Caroline's (Candice King) efforts in trying to alter his decision to murder someone again that particular night by giving him Elena's (Nina Dobrev) iconic necklace. Unfortunately, that did not do anything to prevent the horrendous thing from happening; in fact, it even looked as if seeing the trinket fueled Damon's need to kill. This, on the flipside, is a good development as it did its work helping Damon to break free of Sybil's (Nathalie Kelley) hold over him by killing her. The vampire ripped her heart out of her chest and left her to die, which made for a grim sequence.
The question though is whether Sybil will stay dead or she will have some kind of resurrection almost parallel to that of Damon earlier this season. Bustle notes that it is certainly possible that there is a way for her to survive Damon's blitz attack, especially when the Armory Monster was seen alive and certainly looking well in the sneak peek of the latter half of the show's last outing. What will be fascinating is how she will react to this kind of betrayal from Damon moving forward. That being said, the exact reason for Damon to do that is still very much a mystery meaning that he might have really gotten out of the mind spell or he was just simply pissed.
Whatever the case is, "The Vampire Diaries" endeavors to answer all burning questions when it comes back next year, Jan. 13.
