'The Vampire Diaries' season 8 spoilers: Nina Dobrev plays coy about return
Whether Elena Gilbert will be back in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 or not, actress Nina Dobrev, who played the character, would not want to spoil the surprise, if there will be any that is.
During an interview with The Huffington Post, Dobrev was asked if she will reprise her role as Elena for the last time in the series finale of the vampire drama, which she starred in for six seasons.
"I haven't ever told secrets in the past and I'm definitely not going to start now," the actress said, playing coy about the long-rumored "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 appearance. "Sorry guys, I'm not allowed to talk about that," she went on to say.
As executive producer Julie Plec revealed when Dobrev left the series, the actress made her a promise that she will be back for the series finale. The EP hopes that she will keep her word.
"Not to put too much pressure on anything Nina Dobrev, but a promise was made. An emotional promise that I'd like to see come to life," Plec told TVLine.
The EP promised that she will do everything in her power to be able to bring the actress for "The Vampire Diaries" season 8 and to be part of the show's conclusion.
The CW president Mark Pedowitz also spoke during the Television Critics Association TCA winter press tour about the possibility of Dobrev's return to Mystic Falls come "The Vampire Diaries" season 8.
"The best way I can answer that is, [executive producers] Julie, Kevin Williamson, the studio and The CW promise a fantastic series finale," he said.
Back in August, Pedowitz revealed that there were "discussions going on" with Dobrev, but nothing was set in stone yet. He did promise that with or without Elena, Plec is cooking up an amazing finale.
It looks like fans will have to wait until March 10 to see if Elena will be back in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8.
