'The Voice' Spoilers, Recap News: First Episodes of New Season Focus on Blind Auditions
"The Voice" came back to television with two back-to-back episodes that aired at 8/7c on Monday and Tuesday on NBC.
Monday night's episode saw the beginning of the blind auditions that will last over several weeks. A contestant who was formerly part of "Steel Magnolia" turned up. On Tuesday, everyone's attention shifted to coach Adam Levine who no one picked the previous day.
Auditions on Monday started with four coaches – Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton, Pharrell Williams, and Adam Levine – taking their places in the red seats. Stiff competition soon kicked off among the judges as they vied for the best competitors.
Among the standout auditions of the episode were 19-year-old Lowell Oakley, followed by Cody Wickline who choose team Blake. Then Treeva Gibson performed "Young and Beautiful," after which she decided to pick Christina as her coach.
It was the audition of Meghan Linsey, one half of the "Steel Magnolia" group, that caused a bit of awkwardness as Blake, whom she once toured with, did not turn his chair while the other three judges did. After she picked Pharrell as her coach, Blake complimented her voice and explained why he did not turn his chair.
Then Sarah Potenza picked Blake, and then Rob Taylor picked team Christina. The night wound up with Joshua Davis and Sawyer Fredericks each picking coaches other than Adam.
Tuesday's episode of "The Voice" saw Tonya Boyd-Cannon deliver one of the best auditions of the night. She later chose Team Adam. Deanna Johnson and Blaze Johnson then joined team Adam, bringing the number of his team members to three.
As for Christina, she was chosen by two contestants – Joe Tolo, who only got two chair turns, and Gabriel Wolfchild, who hailed from a hippie collective settlement.
As for Blake, Brook Adee performed "Skinny Love" and then chose him as coach. Pharrell got two contestants to coach – Anthony Riley, who was once a street performer, and 15-year-old Mia Z.
