'The Walking Dead' season 7 episode 7 spoilers: Carl gets himself in a precarious situation

Carl (Riggs) in "The Walking Dead" promo still | AMC

This week's episode of "The Walking Dead" is bringing Carl (Chandler Riggs) into the forefront of the Alexandrians' repressed battle against Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) as one iconic sequence from the Robert Kirkman comics once again gets translated to the small screen.

The installment's synopsis is vague, to say the least, which seems to be the trend recently for the juggernaut series as it mostly just teases a visit to Negan's den while the Alexandrians go on a supply run. But a promotional photo thrown in to entice viewers to tune in to AMC for the upcoming offering proves to be interesting. The snap which features Rick's (Andrew Lincoln) son stripped of his eye patch is suggesting the execution of Issue #155 of "The Walking Dead" comics which had Carl captured in the Sanctuary. Narrative wise, at least from the source material of the show, Negan takes in Carl after the latter comes barging in on the former's turf with an Armalite on his hands. Unfortunately, the younger Grimes seems to not have thought of his plan as he quickly got outnumbered prompting him to be taken into custody. There, Negan works his suave power-tripping abilities as he ordered Carl to show his eye scar and then perform a song.

While it is not confirmed yet as to how this particular situation will be executed on the small screen, the latter part of the narrative can be expected by fans with the promo poster as well as the episode's title, "Sing Me a Song." The promo clip for the episode also backs up the scenario.

Should this piece of comics jewel get done right in "The Walking Dead's" upcoming offering, it will be a good ploy for the show to bring back its massive audience rating that they have lost this season. Following a groundbreaking season-opener that saw the death of Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) and Glenn (Steven Yeun) as well as a closer look at Negan, viewers' numbers have steadily declined for the post-apocalyptic series. And it is just aptly timed to pluck out memorable moments from the comic books to get its narrative on stable grounds.

"The Walking Dead" season 7 airs every Sunday, 9 p.m. ET.
