'The Walking Dead' season 7 news: Teaser reveals identity of Negan's victim?
A new clip from "The Walking Dead" ("TWD") season 7 may have revealed the identity of the poor guy (or girl) whom Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) kills in the upcoming season premiere.
In the teaser, which was unveiled during the zombie apocalypse drama's panel at the recently held New York Comic Con, Rick (Andrew Lincoln) was dragged away by Negan before the camera pans to show the bloody, grisly mess of bone and brain matter that used to be one of the members of Rick's group.
Eagle-eyed fans who saw this clip zoned in on what appeared to be a major clue about the identity of Negan's victim in the climactic scene.
On the "TWD" subreddit, user Mrpoofywaffle pointed out that a ring can be seen half-hidden in the bloody sludge of tissue, bone, and teeth on the ground. According to the Redditor, this may be the engagement ring Glenn (Steven Yeun) gave to Maggie (Lauren Cohan).
Mrpoofywaffle also uploaded an image of the ring as it appeared in a previous season along with a screen shot of the ring in the new clip, showing that there are similarities between the two.
If the object in the teaser is indeed Maggie's engagement ring, then the person who gets killed off in the season 7 premiere can be either Maggie or Glenn, two core characters. It means that Maggie was at the receiving end of Negan's cold-blooded wrath or that she had left the ring beside Glenn's corpse before leaving the scene.
Or it could be that both Maggie and Glenn will be dead by the end of the season 7 opener.
Recently, rumors have been swirling about possible multiple deaths in "The Walking Dead" season 7 premiere. These were fueled by a recent interview in which Morgan appeared to have said that Negan would not just kill one person in the upcoming episode.
But Morgan clarified this report, telling Variety Latino, "That's not what I said."
"I did an interview with this guy and I was talking about Negan's arc and what he does in the course of being Negan on 'The Walking Dead,'" he explained. "It was to get people fired up. Negan does kill a lot of people in the next couple of years. Before we even meet him he's killed a lot of people. Negan's been around for a long time," he added.
Morgan also addressed the theory that Negan's victim will be someone to Rick's right in that scene. This was based on the blood splattered on the protagonist's face in the aforementioned clip.
"I mean, he's got a bloody face," the actor said. "It could be splatter. I could've slapped him. I could've spit on him," he explained.
"The Walking Dead" season 7 debuts on Sunday, Oct. 23, at 9 p.m. EDT on AMC.
