'The Walking Dead' season 7 spoilers: Negan kills not one but two beloved characters
"The Walking Dead" aired its hotly anticipated and much hyped episode yet on Sunday, finally giving millions of fans the reveal they have been looking forward to for the last six months.
After having viewers wait all summer to learn who Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) would kill with his barbed wire-covered bat Lucille, the "Walking Dead" crew left fans to wait for almost an entire episode before giving them the grisly revelation they wanted.
In the season 7 premiere titled "The Day Will Come When You Won't Be," viewers were first treated to a gory mess of blood and brain matter, as well as to Negan waving a bloody Lucille around, before Rick (Andrew Lincoln) was dragged into the RV.
There, he was forced to reflect on the gruesome murders that had just occurred. His reminiscing gave viewers flashbacks to the lives of the possible victims, including Glenn (Steven Yeun), Daryl (Norman Reedus), Carl (Chandler Riggs), Michonne (Danai Gurira), Abraham (Michael Cudlitz), Eugene (Josh McDermitt), Rosita (Christian Serratos), Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green), Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Aaron (Ross Marquand).
In the end, the victim was Abraham. However, Glenn, who was Negan's victim in the "Walking Dead" comics, was killed off in the series as well.
Abraham was revealed to be the victim being pummeled in the season 6 finale, the one whose fate was decided by Negan's eeny meeny miny moe routine. Glenn's murder, which followed Abraham's, was more like an afterthought.
This confirmed the fan speculation that there would be multiple deaths in the season 7 premiere. This was also accidentally spilled by Morgan in an interview, but he later insisted that he was taken out of context.
As for the theory that Negan will cut off Rick's hand in the season 7 premiere? No such thing happened, but the murders succeeded in crushing what was left of Rick's hope and optimism.
"The Walking Dead" season 7 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. EDT on AMC.
