Fandom braces itself for the most awaited series premiere of "The Walking Dead" season 7. Viewers of the show have been hanging on since the season six finale which ended with one of the survivors getting bludgeoned with Negan's barbed-wire-wrapped baseball bat named Lucille.

The shocking execution scene brought fans to an uproar, especially when the identity of the unfortunate survivor was not revealed. It would come as no surprise if eager audiences are now betting on which character it is. As for the 100th issue of the comic book title, Glenn is the unlucky chosen one, but knowing how tricky small-screen versions can be, it would not be surprising if the latter version would differ from the former.

A lot of speculations are going around that it may be Abraham. Just recently, fans have been talking about the possibility of it being Carl, after the show's executive producer, Robert Kirkman, was said to have mentioned during a guesting in Chris Hardwick's show "Talking Dead" that fans would become furious when they find out that it was Carl whom Negan killed. A Twitter post by a fan went as far as to suggest that Kirkman may have been just toying with the fans by saying that.

Looking at the storyline based on the comic book, Carl is instrumental in a later part of the story which made it possible for Rick and his group to defeat Negan and his group of Saviors. However, with Negan blaming Rick for the high death toll in the former's team, it may make sense for Negan to pick Carl to get back at the latter and to hit him hard with the death of the latter's son. It would be the height of demoralization in Rick's group for Carl to have been on the receiving end of Lucille's blow.

Whoever it is, though, it is going to be explosive, as Norman Reedus (playing Daryl Dixon) told EW, "Trust me. I think probably the planet is going to explode. That's my feeling. It's so good."

What is better than this is that it is highly probable that the season 7 premiere of "The Walking Dead" would be the Sunday of the New York Comic Con 2016, which would be Oct. 9, as the NYCC will run from Oct. 6 to 9. In the past six years, this has been the tradition for the show.

Just a few more months and fans will know for sure whether Kirkman was only joking.
