It has been officially announced that "The Walking Dead" companion series will be filmed in Los Angeles. It is not clear yet whether the entire series will be shot in Los Angeles or only the pilot episode will be filmed there.

The new "companion series" is a spin-off of the original TWD series. However, no characters from TWD are expected to appear in the companion series as the latter will take a completely different storyline. It seems like AMC is filling itself with "The Walking Dead" shows, not much to fans' surprise as TWD is currently one of the most popular TV series in the U.S.

The companion series was first rumored to be filmed in Pennsylvania, including three main cast: Alycia Debnam Carey of "Into the Storm," who will play the character of Ashley, while Frank Dillane of the "Harry Potter and the Falf Blood Prince" will play Nick, a recovering drug addict. Alycia and Ashley are children of Nancy Tomkins, but there's no word yet on who will play Nancy. The rumor about filming in Pennsylvania has been debunked, but not the news about the characters.

Another character, Sean Cabrera, who will also be a lead actor in the companion series, will be played by Cliff Curtis of "Gang Related" and "Missing." Sean is a teacher with a son from his ex-wife Andrea, a guidance counselor.

The pilot episode for the series has been codenamed "Cobalt." This code name seems to be the title of the first episode, which is yet to be filmed in 2015.

Adam Davidson will be directing the pilot episode while Robert Kirkman, Dave Erickson, Gale Anne Hurd and Dave Alpert are in charge of the screenplay.
