'The Young and the Restless' news: Adam set to return next year?

As Adam waits in his prison cell, his grows more and more uncertain that he'll ever experience the outside world again. | CBS

Ever since Justin Hartley left "The Young and the Restless," fans have been missing some scenes that involved Hartley's character Adam. Several also miss seeing the tandem of Adam and Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan). Fans are still hopeful that Adam will return to the show.

According to reports, there is a chance that Adam will be back but it will take some time before viewers see him again. It's said that his storyline will be reopened sometime around February 2017. Since that's still months away from now, a lot of changes are expected to happen.

Chelsea has been grieving over the death of her husband but though her love for him has always been true, a time will come that she will move on. Someone new could enter her life which would complicate things if Adam suddenly pops out again.

In fact, it hasn't been long since Adam died when Nick (Joshua Morrow) started showing affection for his sister-in-law. When Adam left, Nick was the one who stood by Chelsea's side. He eventually showed his feelings for her but Chelsea rejected him because she hasn't moved on from Adam yet.

But it's only going to be a matter of time until Nick and Chelsea get together especially since Adam is gone. It's even speculated that Nick and Chelsea will get married before Adam returns. The question remains unanswered though. Will Hartley return to reprise his role?

Hartley is currently working on his new drama, "This Is US," which is reportedly a big hit on NBC. But reports said that he expressed interest in coming back to the show even as just a guest star.

Considering the success of Hartley's new series, CBS may just do a recast. As of the moment, CBS has not announced a casting call for the role.

"The Young and the Restless" airs every Monday to Friday on CBS.
