Tim Tebow news: No takers for Tebow despite 10,000-strong petition for an NFL comeback?
It looks like the "Tim Tebow Saga" has not had its curtain call yet as the former quarterback continues to find his niche in the National Football League (NFL). He has the talent, dedication, and 10,000 signatures backing him up, but it seems the Denver Broncos are far from considering him in their roster this season.
A die-hard fan, Will Garner, created a petition on website Change.org addressed to Gary Kubiak, head coach of the Denver Broncos. He called the petition "Denver Broncos: Bring Tebow Back to Denver" and he was able to amass 10,000 signatures for it.
However, it seems Garner's petition may be for naught since ESPN has reported that the Broncos have filled their roster full as early as last week. Even their first round pick, quarterback Paxton Lynch, remains unsigned to this day.
This hasn't deterred Garner from hoping that other NFL teams would take heed and give Tebow a chance, saying that 10,000 garnered signatures is truly amazing and something to be proud of.
"Even if the Broncos don't pick him up, there really are teams that should consider picking him up, as he is better than what many teams have. He deserves a legit shot," Garner said in an update he posted on the petition page.
Christian athlete Tebow once played for the University of Florida Gators as starting quarterback, and he helped steer the team to a national championship in 2008. He was vital in the Broncos' playoff run in 2012, but left the team later that year for the New York Jets. In 2013, he got picked up by the New England Patriots. His last stop as a professional quarterback was the Philadelphia Eagles, which he played for in 2015.
According to Christian Post, after his stint with the Eagles, Tebow has devoted his time to philanthropy work while serving as an analyst for Southeastern Conference (SEC) college football. The 28-year-old also has motivational speaking engagements, and in most of these, he emphasizes that playing sports is a temporary opportunity.
"I've been fortunate to be part of championships. They don't last forever, but what you do for other people will," Tebow told the students during his speech at the Upstate Sports Awards hosted by Greenville News.
