Torrent site shutdown news and updates: Kickass Torrents finds new domain?

The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) is relentless in its pursuit of websites that promote online piracy. A lot of internet pirates were disappointed when one of the most popular torrenting sites, Kickass Torrents (KAT) was shut down. Well, it looks like the pirate community is not giving up, and a new domain has been found for KAT.

According to News Everyday, the community has moved on to the domain name http://kat.how. It's reported that some KAT members were able to access KAT mirror sites that contained the torrent database before Kickass Torrents was put down.

The KAT community seems to believe that there is more than merely uploading and downloading files from the site. The site has become some sort of a virtual home for users to share their interests and access hard-to-find files. It's only a matter of time before the MPAA finds this new domain and takes it down as well.

Visiting the new domain also tries to get the user to sign an online petition at change.org.

The petition has already garnered more than 59,000 signatures and there is also a statement from the supporters: "In the world where terrorist attacks is a monthly issue, where global corporations are swimming in money and millions dying because of diseases and hunger every single year, do you really think torrents deserve attention, money and human resources you spend on them? Do you really think it's the most important thing on our hands right now?"

The site also goes on to ask for the freedom of Kickass Torrents founder Artem Vaulin. The site says that his arrest is unwarranted since he has allowed millions of users to exercise their freedom to share online.
