The fifth film from the "Transformers" movie series will be released in June 2017. Meanwhile, the trailer for "The Last Knight" show Optimus Prime about to make a fatal blow towards Bumblebee.

"Transformers: The Last Knight" is the fifth film from the "Transformers" movie series, and it will debut in June 2017. "The Last Knight" is directed by Michael Bay, and the film is said to dive into the history and mythology of the Transformers, Slashfilm found out during a set visit.

According to executive producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, the story of "Transformers: The Last Knight" is actually the result of the merging of two ideas. "One is in the Transformer's mythology, billions of years ago, and one is hundreds of years ago," di Bonaventura said.

The EP also added that the film will shed light on how the conflict between Autobots and Decepticons started.

"If you go back in the mythology, how Transformers were actually created, where did it start, where did they go from being a sort of a slave-race to a sentient race. ... So the characters that are involved in there are Megatron before he's Megatron, Optimus before he's Optimus, the Librarian, the Quintessons, there's a whole group of things that have to do with how, in a sense, the Transformers were birthed, and also with how they were divided. What brought up the division, and what were the jealousies involved," he explained.

"The Last Knight" will also tell what makes the Earth significant to the Transformers. There will be scenes that will portray how the Transformers have been part of the Earth's history and what ties them together.

Some of the plot details that the EP mentioned can be seen from the "Transformers: The Last Knight" official trailer. But a scene from the trailer raised big questions about what will happen in the film. It's the part where Optimus Prime and Bumblebee are fighting to their deaths.

Although Optimus Prime says "Forgive me," before giving Bumblebee a fatal blow, there is still no explanation why he would be compelled to do so.

One possibility is that Optimus Prime is possessed or hypnotized. It is noticeable that Optimus Prime's eyes are a glaring violet instead of the electric blue that it always was, which can indicate that he is not himself while battling with Bumblebee.

"Transformers: The Last Knight" is scheduled to premiere on June 23, 2017.
