'Transparent' season 3 release date, cast news: Caitlyn Jenner appears in a dream in new season
"I Am Cait" star Caitlyn Jenner is set to appear in an episode of the upcoming "Transparent" season 3.
Jenner's casting was first announced by "Transparent" creator and showrunner Jill Soloway in April at the GLAAD Media Awards. She did not, however, disclose any details about Jenner's guest role at the time.
Now, "Transparent" executive producer Victor Hsu has revealed that Jenner's participation in the Emmy-winning series will involve an element of fantasy and that she will be appearing in "Transparent" as herself.
Speaking with Us Weekly at the Television Critics Association's summer press tour in Los Angeles on Sunday, August 7, Hsu said, "Without giving away too much, she's part of a scene where we're having a little bit of a dream sequence."
Hsu also shared that the dream is one that Ali Pfefferman (Gaby Hoffmann) has.
In addition, the "Transparent" boss said that Jenner will be one of the several actors appearing in the dream sequence. He did not, however, reveal who else will be joining the television personality.
Hsu also spoke about the decision to cast Jenner in "Transparent" season 3, saying, "It was kind of a room idea when the writers were getting together about who would be great in this sequence to join us, and Caitlyn's name came up, and she came to visit the room and met all the writers and agreed to participate."
He also said that Jenner was on the "Transparent" set for a day, calling her "terrific."
The second season of "Transparent" dropped in December 2015. The series has been so successful that while season 3 is yet to be released, it has already been renewed for a fourth season.
"This news of an order for Season 4 is so so sweet," Soloway said in a statement about the renewal. "The Pfeffermans have many more stories to tell and we can't wait to keep making them."
"Transparent" season 3 arrives on Friday, Sept. 23, on Amazon Prime Video.
