True Detective Season 2 Plot and Cast News: Vince Vaughn Promises New Season Will Be 'Different'
Vince Vaughn isn't worried about living up to the formidable acting standard set by Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in the first season of "True Detective."
As part of the new cast for the second season of HBO's mystery drama, the comedy actor expressed confidence that "True Detective" creator Nic Pizzolatto can make the new season "different."
"I thought Woody and Matthew did an exceptional job with the first season. This one's very different, though. It's totally different story with its own character," Vaughn said in a recent interview with Playboy.
"The thing that's consistent is the richness of the characters and the quality of the material," he added, according to the Variety.
Moving away from swampy Louisiana to a sunny California locale, Vaughn confirmed that the second season also features Rachel McAdams, Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch among its high-profile cast.
Vaughn, who will be playing Frank Semyon, explained that the season's new setting has a lot to do with the difference in tone.
In September, Variety reported that the new story "revolves around three police officers and a career criminal who navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder."
Avoiding to reveal spoilers, Vaughn did confirm the setting as Los Angeles as he enthused about his role.
"I really like my character. Nic is so great about investigating characters and their complexities in an authentic and engaging way," the comedian said, according to Rolling Stones.
"I want to watch this show not because I'm in it but as a fan of the material."
The "Wedding Crashers" star originally met Pizzolatto to develop a movie version of "The Rockford Files," but the pair apparently didn't hit it off.
"He was really enthusiastic but was already working on a crime drama set in Los Angeles, and he gracefully said it was best for him to focus on 'True Detective,'" Vaughn recalled.
"Then he reached out to me about doing that series, and I was beyond flattered and thrilled to collaborate with him. I was happy to work with Colin Farrell, too, whom I'd never worked with before," he added.
