President-elect Donald Trump expects "massive crowds" at his inauguration ceremony as the country's new President this Friday, Jan. 20. The official estimate of people arriving in DC for his swearing-in is reportedly between 800,000 to 900,000 people. However, how many of these people will be arriving to celebrate the event or to protest Trump's inauguration is a big question.

According to NBC News, the National Park Service has provided 22 permits for First Amendment events that will be held over the inauguration week on park service land, including the National Mall and the White House. Each of these registered protests varies in number, from 50 to 200,000 people. This does not count any protest with less than 25 participants as such protests do not require a permit.

The magnitude of the protests over Trump's inauguration is expected to exceed that of the 1973 inauguration of President Richard Nixon, according to The Washington Times. During Nixon's swearing-in as President, more than 25,000 activists have protested, and dozens of them ended up arrested.

For example, the Women's March on Washington, which is scheduled the day after the inauguration, is expected to draw around 200,000 demonstrators. That estimated figure is already larger than Nixon's protest crown by sevenfold.

Aside from the Women's March, several other demonstrations have already begun as the Inauguration Day approaches, and more events are scheduled to be held in the days to come.

As reported by the International Business Times, the National Alliance to Reclaim Our Schools will be staging a national day of action in an effort to defend schools under the public education system from President-elect Trump, and they have scheduled their protest on Thursday, Jan. 19. "The Busboys and Poets Peace Ball" event is scheduled the very same day at the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington.

A mass protest, called "#InaugurateTheResistance," is expected to begin at 7 a.m. on Jan. 20 at Freedom Plaza. It is organized by The Act Now to Stop War and End Racism (ANSWER) Coalition, and the said event has 11,000 confirmed attendees on Facebook.

On the day of Trump's inauguration, college groups like the Socialist Students and Students for a Democratic Society have also announced mass campus walkouts across the country.
