Writer Joe Carnahan recently revealed that the draft script for the much-awaited "Uncharted" movie is finally complete.

Carnahan took to Instagram to share the happy news by posting a picture of his finished draft of the script he wrote for the upcoming movie.

"Done and Dusted," Carnahan captioned the photo he posted on Instagram. "Now the REAL work begins. If there's a more monstrously cool action script in Hollywood right now, I wanna read it, 'cuz this thing is a BEAST."

Ever since the first "Uncharted" game was released, many avid gaming fans were already expectant that the adventures of Nathan Drake would someday be adapted for the big screen. Hence, it no longer came as a surprise when a film adaptation of the game series was announced back in 2009. However, since then, the project has been plagued with several problems during its development.

After nearly eight years of intermittent development and having gone through at least three potential directors and two writing teams, it became uncertain whether the film adaptation would ever get off the ground. But now, with "Stranger Things" director Shawn Levy at the helm and Carnahan's completion of the script, things may finally be looking up, and "Uncharted" could actually go into production this year.

According to GameRant, hopes are high that the upcoming "Uncharted" movie will finally put an end to the trend of failure in producing successful high-profile video game film adaptations which continued on even in 2016. "Assassin's Creed" was supposed to put an end to this negative trend, but it was also critically panned despite the efforts of its Oscar-nominated cast.

However, considering that the "Uncharted" video games have always been heavily compared to movies themselves, the series will reportedly be in a better position than most games to forge a new and successful path in being adapted to a movie.

After years of undergoing development, the "Uncharted" movie still has no official release date. However, its current director aims to complete filming before the end of 2017.
