'Vampire Diaries' Season 6 Spoilers, Plot News: Ian Somerhalder Says Stefan Will Go Through 'Transformation'
After a brief hiatus, "The Vampire Diaries" Season 6 will return with Episode 16 on Thursday, March 12. The episode, entitled "The Downward Spiral," is directed by none other than Ian Somerhalder, one of the show's biggest stars, and will take off from where Episode 15 ended.
Caroline (Candice Accola) decided she needed to turn off her humanity in Episode 15 ("Let Her Go"), believing that by doing so, she wouldn't be a bloodthirsty vampire who would want to kill everyone. The contributing factors to the decision were, first, the grief she felt over her mother Sheriff Forbs' death and, second, the insinuation from Stefan that even after they kissed, he did not have any romantic feelings for her.
Caroline's decision remove all her emotions did not bode well for Mystic Falls and the vampires, so we can expect Stefan and Elena to do what needs to be done to bring their friend back.
Director and co-star Somerhalder told Entertainment Weekly that Stefan (Paul Wesley) will have to make some very difficult choices. "Stefan makes a very, very tough decision that changes everything for him for quite a while."
Somerhalder also hinted that "Stefan will go through a pretty intense transformation." This actually hinted that perhaps Stefan would also lose his humanity.
While this drama was going on, another one was brewing closer to home. Bonnie (Kat Graham) told Damon (Somerhalder) that his and Stefan's mother, Lily, were still very much alive but trapped in a prison world. Damon has to wrestle with the decision of telling Stefan or not. Stefan had grieved the loss of their mother since he was a 10-year-old child and to tell him that their mother was potentially a very evil person trapped in a bad place might just suddenly turn his world inside out. And potentially this might further tip the balance to Stefan wanting to lose his humanity.
