"Vikings" has officially been renewed for a fifth season earlier this year, and speculations have already begun about the fate of each character even before the show completely wraps up its fourth season.

Filming for season 5 is reportedly done and the cast of the hit series has been teasing fans with behind-the-scene photos and short snippets of scenes that seem to suggest a series of more intense and bloodier battles in the show's fifth year.

Most recently, actress Katheryn Winnick, who plays the shieldmaiden and Earl of Hedeby Lagertha, posted a video on her official Instragram account showing off her character's new tattoo. The skin art covered the actress' shoulder and upper arm and is said to be designed to look like chain mail. GameNGuide speculated this could hint on Lagertha possibly becoming a more powerful warrior in the upcoming fifth season of "Vikings."

Another rumor that's been catching on is the possible death of the legendary Viking warrior and king Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) in the second part of "Vikings" season 4. Speculations were fueled by his alleged absence from the wrap party celebrating the end of filming for season 5. The rumor was given more steam by talks of the fifth season possibly being about a new king's succession to the position of authority that will be left, if and when Ragnar dies.

There have also been reports about the addition of a new character in "Vikings" season 5. Swedish actress Josefin Asplund will be joining the cast as Astrid, who will allegedly become Lagertha's female lover. It is not yet clear how their paths are going to cross or if Ragnar will stand in the way of their romance.

More ideas and speculations about how "Vikings" season 5 takes shape will come when "Vikings" returns for the second and final part of its fourth season on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at 9 p.m. EDT on History.

The fifth season will then follow up on the plot turns and conflicts of the historical series when it airs sometime in 2017.

Meanwhile, actor Fimmel is up for a nomination in the final list of Favorite Cable TV Actor at the People's Choice Awards. Voting is currently ongoing and will continue until Tuesday, Nov. 15, when voting for the winners commences.
