Walking Dead Season 5 Live Stream Free: Episode 12 Recap "Remember" – Who Are Alexandria's Real Bad Guys?
The ending of Episode 11 of The Walking Dead saw Rick Grimes and his group outside the gates of Alexandria, the place where Aaron and Eric led them to, their supposed haven. Episode 12 is all about how Rick and his group react to Alexandria and the people within it.
The episode is shown with a series of video footage per person, an interview of sorts for membership for Rick and his team, as the different events within Alexandria occur. They meet Deanna Monroe, the place's leader, as well as some of the new characters that live in Alexandria.
Deanna, who was a an Ohio congresswoman, explains how Alexandria came to be. The army led her and her family to the place, but they never came back. She explains that her husband and her son took apart a shopping mall that was built nearby and used the steel reinforced walls to surround the place. Rick is interested to know that Deanna and her family have been behind the walls all this time. Deanna tells him how they need people who have lived outside, and that was the reason they wanted Rick's group to join them. Rick warned her to keep the gates closed and not to be too trusting. "People out there are always looking for an angle, looking to play on your weakness. They measure you by what they can take from you, by how they can use you to live." At this point you think whether Rick is talking about himself and his team.
The group are assigned houses, but they sleep together on the first night. They get to take long baths, wear clean clothes, and Rick finally sheds his beard! They are told they would be assigned jobs. The individual video interviews show each person's "strategy" or lack of it – Carol chooses to lie about her strength and independence and regresses back to the person she was at the start of the series, helpless and naïve. Carl has trouble integrating with the other boys his own age. He talks about how this community was just the sort of place his Mom wanted them to live in, and in the same breath he tells Deanna about having to kill his Mom, because he had to be the one. Darryl continues to look and feel like a fish out of water, saying in his interview that Carl and Judith deserved to be in a place like this, intimating that he was doing this for them. Michonne says they are ready for this, although she continues to not be able to sleep at night just like Rick. Glenn is determined to make this work, because he says in his interview, they have been out there too long.
Glenn, Tara and Noah join Aidan (Deanna's son) and Nicholas (an Alexandria resident) outside the walls, and it becomes apparent that the Alexandria residents do not have what it takes to survive in the outside world. Aidan complains to his mother and indicates that the newcomers were going to be useless. Tempers rise and Glenn gets to hit Aidan. Deanna informs everyone that Rick and his team are now part of the community. She gives Rick and Michonne the job of constables. She then thanks Glenn for "knocking" her son "on his ass".
Towards the end, Rick is back in a sheriff uniform, talking to Darryl and Carol, about finally being able to sleep in their own homes. Carol is worried about letting their guard down and getting too comfortable. "We won't get weak. That's not us anymore. We'll make it work. It they can't make it, then we'll just take this place." Rick says as he looks into Carol, then Darryl in the eyes. A great story twist. Now, they're not fighting the bad guys. They just might become the bad guys.
