'Warcraft 2' plot updates 2016: Director's cut will not be released; film originally set for a trilogy
Duncan Jones' "Warcraft" was not the critical success that the studio hoped it would be. The movie basically bombed in the US Box Office. However, the movie was a success in other parts of the globe, and the Chinese viewers were responsible for making the movie an overseas hit. Jones has taken the time to talk about what plans they had for the sequel. He also emphasized that "Warcraft" will not have a director's cut.
In an interview with Thrillist, Jones talked about the fans who have been asking him for the director's cut, to which he says there won't be one. Due to the fact that movie is CGI heavy, the studio couldn't afford to animate sequences that would end on the cutting room floor. It was all a process of losing ideas and getting new ones over the course of three-and-a-half years.
With regards to working on a possible sequel, the director said that since they already laid down the foundation of the world, which he considered the difficult part. He claims that, if given a chance, he would want to "have some fun in that world now that I've done the hard work."
GeekTyrant reports that Jones originally wanted a "Warcraft" film trilogy. Regarding the plot of the sequels, the director previously talked about his ideas for the follow-up stories and how he imagines the trilogy to end.
In the first movie, Durotan (Toby Kebbell) lead the Orcs away from their original home so that they could find themselves a new place to live in Azeroth. This led to the war between Orcs and humans. Jones says that the "Warcraft" story would end with the Orcs finally able to settle somewhere peacefully.
Despite what critics say, many fans are still looking forward to new "Warcraft" films.
"Warcraft" becomes available for Blu-Ray and DVD on Sept. 27, 2016.
