'Wayward Pines' season 3 renewed or canceled news update: Fox to renew series? 'Compelling storyline' to mark show's final season?
The season finale of "Wayward Pines'" second installment left much to be desired as far as proper closure goes. While the question of a third season has been hanging in the air, a Fox executive could have hinted its possibility.
To refresh viewers' memories, the second run of "Wayward Pines" ended with select residents of the idyllic town climbing into cryogenic chambers to sleep until it's the right time for them to go out into the real, hopefully Abbie-free world again. Outside the safe haven of the pods, the Abbies thrived and continued to grow in numbers. However, towards the end of the finale episode, a baby was born among the Abbies, although this one looked to be as human as humans could get.
Should that baby be a human who would grow up among the Abbies, it could make for a great storyline for the third season. That is, if there would be a season 3.
Still, during the Television Critics Association press tour on Monday, Dana Walden, CEO of Fox Television Group, hinted of a possible "Wayward Pines" season 3 renewal. Apparently, the network is considering giving the third installment the green light, referring to the show as "the number one scripted show of the summer."
Walden shared that she talked with executive producer M. Night Shyamalan about the third run and that the writers of the series have already pitched a captivating storyline for said installment. It appears the storyline is what made Fox reconsider giving the series a third season.
"They have a really compelling idea for season three that I liked very much. We're definitely talking about the show right now," Slashfilm quoted Walden as saying.
Should a third season push through for "Wayward Pines," it would also signal the end of the series according to co-executive producer Blake Crouch. Even Shyamalan said that "Wayward Pines" is a three-season series.
"We came up with a three-season arc, so in a perfect world, if we have the chance, we would conclude 'Wayward Pines' in a third season," Crouch told Zap2it.
That said, fans would just have to wait until the official release date of "Wayward Pines" season 3 is announced. Keep coming back for updates about the show.
