'Wayward Pines' season 3 spoilers: FOX contemplates about series renewal for season 3
The fate of "Wayward Pines" season 3 remains in question, as FOX continues its silence about the series renewal of the mystery sci-fi thriller based on Blake Crouch's novels.
In the finale of season 2, viewers found out that Theo (Jason Patric) and CJ (Djimon Hounsou) will be among the citizens of the strange town who will be put to sleep again in order to save mankind from possible extinction.
Meanwhile, Kerry (Kacey Rohl) decided to be left behind and sacrificed her own life by injecting herself with strains of dangerous diseases so she can feed herself to the Abbies to wipe them out. This means that viewers could look forward to seeing the residents of Wayward Pines wake up and maybe find out if Kerry's sacrifices worked if the series will be renewed for a third season.
Almost five months after the end of season 2 in July, FOX has yet to decide if they still want to feature the return of "Wayward Pines" for season 3 since the ratings for its second season did not perform well compared to the first. Yet FOX Television Group Chairman and CEO Dana Walden stated during the summer press panel of the Television Critics Association that a third season of "Wayward Pines" should be in order.
"It's still the number one scripted show of the summer. It struggled. Most shows struggle year to year. We don't know yet what we're going to find when the multi-platform numbers roll up, ultimately how big that audience is," Walden stated during the press panel as reported by We Got This Covered back in July.
The FOX executive also mentioned that they are hoping to make a decision about the return of the show while M. Night Shyamalan has time to do another season of "Wayward Pines." According to Walden, "I know that Night's schedule is busy. We also have almost all the information we need. We just want to see a few more of the delayed viewing platform results."
