HBO's breakout sci-fi drama "Westworld" has been recently confirmed to premiere on 2018.

Compared to other TV networks, HBO shows are known to have long breaks in between seasons. Most programs usually go on summer and winter breaks for a maximum of two months, while HBO allows an entire year of hiatus for its shows. The long wait is already expected by fans since the production of HBO dramas is a lot bigger.

"Westworld" was a major hit among fans despite being a new series, and soon after its premiere last year, the show has gained massive followers who are now anticipating its next season. Though season 2 was initially expected to arrive this year, HBO president of programming Casey Bloys confirmed that the wait will be a bit longer.

"Here's the good news: We've got Westworld coming back for 2018," Bloys said last week during an HBO event. The executive went on to explain that season 2 will have a big production, so a definitive premiere date cannot be announced yet. Cast member Luke Hemsworth previously told Independent that the upcoming season was delayed to make sure that everything is done right. "They want to go in with a clear plan -- A to Z and everything in between. At least have drafts in place," the actor said.

Back in November, showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy revealed that season 2 will explore how the hosts work. Given their extraordinary features and abilities, Nolan said it would be interesting to know the advantages and disadvantages of being a host.

"Their construction and their power source is something we're really going to get into during season 2," Nolan shared. "So we'd like to keep that mysterious... [In] season 2, we'll be exploring more of the nuts and bolts of what they are—as the hosts themselves are trying to understand," he went on to say.
