In a few months, the upcoming DC superhero film "Wonder Woman" will finally be making its big screen debut. Although Warner Bros. has spared no expense in releasing new trailers and in promoting the upcoming DC comics film adaptation, only little is known about the film's plot.

Now, it looks like one vital piece of information about the movie's story has been revealed: the identity of the film's main villain.

Studio Ciné Live recently published a feature on "Wonder Woman," and it shared a few new details that most fans have been eager to learn about. The magazine ended up revealing that Ares, the god of war, would be Wonder Woman's main adversary in the solo superhero film.

Les Toiles Héroïques translated a portion of the feature that reveals the plot of the "Wonder Woman" movie, and it reads: "Behind these scientific formulas, there is a deadly gas that could well annihilate humanity. It turns out that it might interest Ares, the god of war. He is jealous of humanity, which is a creation of his father, the deceased Zeus (the Amazons and Zeus rebelled against Ares and Zeus died from the hand of his son)."

As reported by Screen Crush, Ares, aside from his identity in Greek mythology as the god of war, is also a frequent adversary of Wonder Woman in DC comics. As a villain, he appeared on the pages of "Wonder Woman" as far back as the 1940s. He is noted for being one of the signature arch-enemies of the Amazons, particularly of its warrior princess.

With Gal Gadot in the starring role of Diana, Princess of Themyscira, the film also stars Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, Robin Wright as General Antiope, and Lucy Davis as Etta Candy. The cast also includes Danny Huston, Ewen Bremner, David Thewlis, Elena Anaya, Said Taghmaoui, and Lisa Loven Kongsli.

"Wonder Woman" is scheduled to hit theaters on June 2.
