WWE News: SmackDown Live PPV goes through ups and downs
World Wrestling Entertainment's SmackDown Live brand recently completed another pay-per-view (PPV) event with "No Mercy" on Oct. 9 at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento,California. Like any event, it certainly had its share of highs and lows.
It was an action-packed event, with many different titles on the line and heavily anticipated battles on the horizon, which obviously excited fans.
Some results were expected, while some left the crowd wanting more.
Bleacher Report quickly released an article to highlight the highs and lows of the show and detailed some of the things that the show could have improved on.
One is the anticipated WWE return of superstar Curt Hawkins.
Many were left wondering how Hawkins would do in SmackDown Live and how his new image would fare against the top stars in the brand.
"No Mercy" was supposed to be the place where Hawkins was set to return to the ring. Instead, he stepped inside the squared circle and announced that he was going to delay his fight. Instead of pushing through with the match, he will battle on Tuesday on SmackDown Live.
This was definitely a letdown as fans wanted to officially see Hawkins back in action.
Next was the battle for the Women's Championship as Becky Lynch was supposed to defend her title against Alexa Bliss.
It was announced on WWE's Twitter that Lynch would not be available to battle Bliss. It was revealed that the match-up would take place on Nov. 8 so fans would have to wait for close to a month before seeing if a new Women's Champion would be crowned.
There were definitely high notes in the evening, notably Dolph Ziggler beating The Miz to win the Intercontinental Championship. This saves Ziggler's career and gives him a brand new push in the company.
Finally, AJ Styles also defended his World Championship in a triple-threat match against Dean Ambrose and John Cena in an action-packed and high intensity battle.
Despite the title tilt not as the main event, it was not short of exciting moments that kept fans in the loop.
This PPV event should produce interesting storylines in the future.
