X-Men Live Action TV Series News, Rumors: Fox Confirms X-Men Movies Spin-Off
Marvel fans no longer have to wait for a year or two just to see what their favorite mutants have been up to.
With just a push of a button, "X-Men" enthusiasts can just tune in on Fox Network to follow a live action series that will be based on Peter David's "X-Factor."
Three months after rumors started swirling around, Fox Entertainment Chairman Gary Newman said negotiations are underway to develop a TV series about the X-Men.
"It's in negotiations. We're cautiously optimistic, we had a good meeting with (Marvel)," Newman told TV Guide at the Television Critics Association Press Tour a few weeks ago, according to CNN.
Fox studio counterpart, 20th Century Fox, currently owns the rights to all X-Men film franchise including seven movies featuring X-Men characters.
But TV rights is another matter altogether, which has reportedly led to "delicate talks" since it would need Marvel's approval.
Think about this: Warner Bros. Television is currently making "Gotham," based on DC Comics characters, for FOX while Disney, the owner of Marvel, has "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," and "Agent Carter" on its own TV networks like ABC.
While talks to bring the franchise to the small screen are underway, sources indicate that a deal is far from complete, with Marvel — which owns the comics rights — still having to sign on to the deal.
Granted that FOX and Marvel can meet halfway to settle relevant issues, Newman still needs to burst our bubble about seeing the comic superheroes come to life on primetime T.V.
He immediately clarified that the show about mutants couldn't actually be ready before the 2016 to 2017 season.
"That will not be on a fast track creatively. This is just the deal, now we have to find the creative," he said, according IGN.com.
Citing sources, Hollywood Reporter added that FOX is also trying to adapt iconic Marvel comic characters with 24 producers Evan Katz and Manny Coto involved.
Sharing the credits with Katz and Coto as showrunners will be Star Trek 3 writing duo Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne, which Fox has yet to comment on.
