The untitled "X-Men" TV series is already nearing its pilot order at Fox. The show will be featuring super mutants who were already introduced in film and new characters that will be created for the series.

Deadline reports that Fox, along with producing studios 20th Century Fox TV and Marvel TV, has already received a copy of the script for the "X-Men" drama series.

According to Fox chairman Gary Newman, they are only waiting for the final draft of the series' script, and a pilot order is expected to happen a few weeks after it is finished. Casting is already underway, and Newman expects that everything will be set in motion quickly once the green light has been given for the show.

The upcoming "X-Men" series will be directed by Matt Nix, who shared at the Television Critics Association winter press tour that the show's timeline will be connected to the movies.

Nix explained, "If you look at the movies that take place, they don't all line up perfectly. So it's not like I'm slavishly fitting myself into a particular slot [but] if you like that world and the world of the movies, there are definite nods to it, it definitely exists in the same general universe," The Hollywood Reporter confirmed.

Nix also revealed that he will be putting familiar characters and will be inventing new mutants for the series. The director pitched new characters for the series to drive a new direction where pivotal characters of the franchise such as Wolverine won't be missed.

According to Nix, the "X-Men" TV series will follow the story of two non-mutant parents who will discover that their children are mutants. In the storyline, the government is hostile against mutants, and the family will be joining a group of mutant refugees to fight against the government to survive.

There is still no confirmation when the "X-Men" TV series will premiere on Fox.
