Xperia Z4 Release Date, Specs News: Launching At M.W.C. 2015, But Lack Of News From Sony

All indicators point towards Sony launching the Xperia Z4 during the Mobile World Congress which takes place on March 2, 2015, in Barcelona. However, the company has not officially indicated yet that such a launch is planned.

Usually, companies that plan to launch products at M.W.C. release information via cryptic invitations to the press, which Samsung did recently to give a hint about the launch of the Galaxy S6. Despite the lack of news emanating from Sony, speculation has been rife that the time has come for the company to launch the Z4. This speculation is based on the fact that Z3 was launched in September last year and that there is a six-month development cycle for new products like smartphones.

As for the design of the Z4, many reviewers expect that Sony will not be making radical changes, as they consider the Z3 as one of the best devices in 2014. Along this line, the upcoming Z4 could use glass for its back panel while its frame could be made from metal and feature the same nylon padding along the edges found in Z3 to reduce damage caused by accidental drops.

On the size of the display, a photo was posted recently on Weibo a popular Chinese social network, and it showed the Z4 with smaller bezels than its predecessor and a display measuring 5.5 inches. The photo also showed that the front of the Z4 will be redesigned with the speakers being pushed towards the sides and positioned behind slits.

Going by the image it also appears that Sony has exchanged the position of its front camera and the ambient light sensor. As for specs, many websites are saying that the company will opt to use the 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset which Samsung has dropped from the S6. On the Z4 the chipset will be coupled with a 2.8 GHz octa-core CPU. As for RAM, indications are that Sony will opt for 4GB.

As for its battery, many reviewers expect that Sony will try to achieve the two days of usage that people normally get from the Z3 and will therefore use a similar battery on the Z4.
