'Young Han Solo' movie release date, news and updates: Alden Ehrenreich praises casting of Donald Glover, talks about Chewbacca
A lot of fans are excited about the release of Lucasfilm's untitled "Young Han Solo" movie, and production has just recently announced that it cast "Community" star Donald Glover in the role of smooth-talking rogue, Lando Calrissian. The new Han Solo himself, Alden Ehrenreich, commented on the casting of Glover and the appearance of Han's first mate, Chewbacca.
In an interview with Variety, Ehrenreich said, "I'm allowed to say that I'm really excited about Donald Glover's casting. I think he's going to be great in the role because he's such a talented and interesting guy."
Fans agree that Glover has some very huge shoes to fill as the role was originally played by Billy Dee Williams.
Though he is better known for his stint in the comedy series "Community," Glover is now starring in "Atlanta," a series that he himself helped create. Glover is also active in the rap scene using his stage name, Childish Gambino.
Ehrenreich also talked about Chewbacca in the movie, and he said, "I can say that Chewbacca's in the film, although I know that's not a huge spoiler. He's as much younger as I am in the film, so, I think he's like 190 — or something — years old. I don't think there's a huge growth spurt for him from 190 to 210, so he's probably about the same height."
In the lore, Chewbacca's species lives for a very long time, and they have been known to have a lifespan of over 400 years. This is also the reason why fans got to see an adult Chewbacca appear alongside Yoda in "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith."
Is it possible that the movie will show how Chewbacca came to owe a "life debt" to Han Solo?
The "Young Han Solo" movie is expected to come out on May 25, 2018.
