The killer who shot singer Christina Grimmie on June 11 wanted to marry her but killed her instead after finding out she already had a boyfriend.

Co-workers of the 27-year-old shooter identified as Kevin Jaimes Loibl told TMZ that Loibl fantasized making Grimmie his wife. He even went under the knife for a Lasik eye surgery, got hair transplants, and turned vegan to shed weight in his mission to make Grimmie his.

The gunman's co-workers at Best Buy added that Loibl claimed he met Grimmie in March during one of her shows and even played online games with the singer. However, a source from Grimmie's camp denied these claims.

Things turned sour for the infatuated man when photos posted by the late singer on social media of her and her producer indicated a romantic relationship between the two. Loibl's colleagues teased him that his dreams about Grimmie were crushed because she already had a boyfriend.

This was when, they believe, Loibl decided to travel 107 miles from St. Petersburg to The Plaza Live Theater in Orlando where the 22-year-old Christian singer opened for the band Before You Exit.

While signing autographs for fans after the show, Loibl approached Grimmie as a fan and fired shots at the singer in the head. The singer's older brother, Marcus, tackled the attacker as soon as he heard the shots and prevented any more shots from being fired except for the one Loibl directed to kill himself.

Grimmie rose to fame through her YouTube videos in July 2009. The former contestant of the singing competition "The Voice" considered herself as a "full-on Christian who loves Jesus" and spoke openly of her Christian faith.

A previous article by Santa Monica Observer speculated that the Orlando police are looking into Grimmie's case as a hate crime.

She was laid to rest Friday, June 17 at the Fellowship Alliance Chapel in her hometown Medford, New Jersey.
