Android 7.1.1 Nougat update: Nexus 6 gets security updates along with Google Pixel, Google Pixel XL
Android 7.1.1 Nougat has been rolled out in several Android-based brands, leaving all others wondering when their smartphones will be updated with the latest operating system (OS). Good news for Nexus 6 users, it has just been announced recently that the device will receive the update this January.
Users of Nexus 6 got disappointed when Google did not release the Android 7.1.1 Nougat on their device. Despite demands for an explanation, Google maintained composure and simply explained that they found a bug that would risk Nexus 6's performance when installed with Android 7.1.1 Nougat.
Google Nexus was launched in 2014 and so it is an eligible device that should be given Android 7.1.1 Nougat. It can be remembered that Google made a new software policy stating that they can only give OS updates to devices that are more than two years old and until three years of age.
This means Android 7.1.1 Nougat may be the last update that Nexus 6 will receive. Other eligible devices include Pixel C, HTC Nexus 9, LG Nexus 5X, Google Pixel, Google Pixel XL, General Mobile 4G Android, Huawei Nexus 6P and the devices registered in the Android Beta Program.
Their explanation was recognized as acceptable, though the users will have to wait unknowingly when Android 7.1.1 Nougat become available to Nexus 6. Finally, after months of practicing patience, Google announced that the new OS is ready for their device.
Android 7.1.1 Nougat promises new features like DayDream VR mode, multiwindow support for multitasking, and app shortcuts, among others.
Aside from Android 7.1.1 Nougat update, Nexus 6 will also be given monthly security updates, effective Jan. 3. The security updates will simultaneously be available to Google Pixel and Google Pixel XL as well.
An OS upgrade schedule is posted on Rogers to assist the Android users of what particular update their device will receive.
