"Grimm" fans were given grim news a few weeks ago when NBC announced that the upcoming sixth season will be the last for the series. As a result, fans launched several online petitions for NBC or other networks to save the show. The petitions turned out to be a massive success.

News of "Grimm's" cancellation was something fans have been sensing for a while already, and their fears were realized when NBC decided to cut down the episode order for the series from 22 to 13. However, diehard fans of the series, like Rebecca Hays of Wales, UK, will not take the news seating down.

She launched an online petition via Change.org asking Netflix to pick up the series after season 6, if not for a season 7, then possibly for a spin-off series.

"The majority of the fans feel, that the story cannot end yet, that there is so much more potential and that it would be a wasted opportunity," she wrote on the petition page.

Hays claims the move to the "infamous Friday night death slot" triggered "Grimm's" doom. To date, Hays' petition garnered 6,979 supporters and only 521 are needed to reach the goal of 7,500.

Another fan set up a separate petition, this time asking TNT to pick "the best show in the universe." As of this writing, the petition has 922 supporters, with a goal of 1,000 petitioners.

According to reports, "Grimm" season 6 is expected to get darker, what with Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli) and Captain Sean Renard (Sasha Roiz) slugging it out. Tension between the two will mount, more so since Nick is bent on rescuing Adalind Schade (Claire Coffee) from the clutches of Renard.

NBC is keeping mum about its reaction to the massive success of the online petitions launched in behalf of "Grimm." Nevertheless, the International Business Times reports that NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt recently acknowledged the international success of the series.

The revelation fueled speculations that may NBC is not totally cancelling the series but mere planning a different direction for it. Will that mean a spin-off for the show? It remains to be seen.

"Grimm" season 6 is set to premiere on Jan. 6, 2017 on NBC.
